The DPR-944's "2+2" designation defines exactly what it is: two fully parametric compressor channels with BSS's proprietary subtractive VCA architecture, paired with two independent frequency-conscious noise gate channels — all independently patchable and freely assignable to any signal in your rack. The subtractive VCA compression approach delivers audibly transparent gain control that has made BSS Opal outboard a standard choice on touring productions, broadcast installs and studio recordings for decades. Both compressor channels feature a side-chain parametric filter (60Hz–12kHz, 0.4 octave to fully out) with a dedicated listen switch for precise frequency-selective compression, de-essing and dynamic equalisation. The gate channels use a tuneable bandpass filter on the key signal to eliminate false triggering from rack tom spill and bleed — critical for live drum and multi-mic setups. Both compressor channels stereo-linkable independently of the gate channels. Switchable +4dBu/–10dBV operating level per channel for professional and semi-professional compatibility.
